It was supposed to be our return trip to Vegas. My last trip, and the last vacation I ever had was back in March of 2002. While 2001 was a horrible year for many New Yorkers, it was a personal best for me; in terms of finances. I can honestly say that that was the best week of my Life. We both got food poisoning on our last day there. I can still vividly recall the cab ride from the airport after we landed. It's so fresh in my mind.

The food poisoning hit him first, for several hours before it hit me. I kept an eye on him, and looked after him. The trip in October was supposed to be our chance to re-live the good times. (Along with his new wife).

She's a sweet girl who thinks of me as an older brother. All three of us are close. All I wanted was to re-live the good times. But that's not happening. He called me up and told me we'd have to push the date back to January, since there's a conflict with her school schedule. I can't blame her. Not her fault. But this sort of thing came up before. At first he wanted to push the date up so we'd be in Vegas during the height of Summer. Then he said it wouldn't be a problem. Back to the date in October. Two or three months go by, I get the bill for the plane ticket.

After I pay it, a week later he calls me up and tells me about the conflict with her school schedule. Knowing how he is, I'm still surprised anyway that he waited this long to tell me. He's terrible at planning anything. But since he has experience planning trips to Vegas, I figured it wouldn't be an issue.

We did Disneyland and Knots Berry farm in the last trip. Planned on doing that on this one too.... I've been waiting to go back since early 2002. Been looking forward to the specific trip in October for nearly a year. Kept my crappy job just so I could get the vacation time. Only reason why I kept it. I'd consider going in January, if it wasn't for the fact that I've known him for nearly 20 years. Something else will come up in January. Date will be pushed back again. (Perhaps Summer of 2010). Most likely situation will be that he'll find a job by January, since he's currently unemployeed, and then tell me that his new job won't let him go on vacation in January.

After the phone call, I realized this trip just was not going to happen. Ever realize that something you really wanted, and worked towards, just wasn't going to happen? I realized that yesterday. My best bet is to just cut my losses. I'm glad I didn't pre-pay for any other part of the trip.
